can we get a descussion going about navigation devices. what apps do you use? how reliable are they? do you use multiple apps or stick with one? we have not purchased an ipad or anyting just yet but need to find something better than my iphone for navigation. i'd like to have something dedicated to mapping and navigation.

Sure happy to discuss Nav options I use.
I use three main apps and one for every once in a while stuff.
The Dyrt - Not navigation, but I use this app for near civilization free camping locations. Works very well when I am driving interstates and need a place to sleep for the night. These spots are almost always easy to access and don’t require 4x4 to get there.
Trails Offroad - I use this for trail info and middle of nowhere camping. I love how well written their trail reviews are and it is great for determining how rough it will be. Their trail guide info is restricted to only authorized people and users can leave comments for updates. You can also download entire state info for offline use and transfer the routes to Gaia. OnX is another popular one, but I have never used that app.
Gaia - I use this app most often. It is easy to use for general navigation and bridging trails together plus good forest road info in national forests using the MVUM layer.
Jeep Badge of Honor - Not used for navigation, but this app is useful for finding major “Iconic” trail info.
Hope this helps!
